This old style beer is actually a dark lager, brewed by Pabst in the Lone Star state of Texas. It is dark golden in colour and really quite tasty, with a rich history behind it. It is the Chicago version of Pabst beer, a clean refreshing lager with a light malty flavour.
Launched at the start of the 20th century, it was brewed by a German immigrant by the name of Gottlieb Heilemann at his small brewery in the town of La Crosse, Wisconsin. The popularity of his beer quickly spread across state lines and Old Style was soon adopted by the people of Chicago as their own brand, which led to the sponsorship of the Chicago Cubs baseball team, an association that endures to this day.
The large Pabst brewery took over Heilemans at the start of this century. The beer has also given its name to a design font, which was created specifically for the Pabst Brewing Company by an American typographer by the name of Frederic Goudy.
